Self Care Sunday Edition
In Season 3 of INSECURE, Molly decided to seek a therapist, Dr. Rhonda, after emotionally dealing with the past infidelity of her parents’ marriage. She later discovers other ploys within her personal life, that she has yet to unpack: equal pay at her employment, friendship with Issa, and situationship with her childhood friend DRO. Molly doesn’t recognize her perfectionist, passive-aggressiveness, and suppression of her emotions due to post-traumatic events.
In Season 4, Molly and Issa adopts “Self Care Sunday” routine with yoga and extracurricular activity after taking mini-break with Dr.Rhonda. After the friendship ended and heated conversation with her boyfriend’s Andrew brother Victor in Mexico, she finally schedules another visit with her therapist.
When her environment or situations became uncontrollable, unbearable, and uncomfortable, Molly sought different avenues to help cope with her scenarios, but only towards the end when things got ugly. Although Molly was seem as a control freak, this was technically a defense mechanism of trust issues with people and herself.
I guess Molly and I have a little something in common…
“ You’re grown grown now, it’s time,” she said.
My therapist broke up with me.
I am not ok with it.
The fact of not being able to schedule the next appointment, or crack jokes in her office does not sit right with me either. It hasn’t really hit me until now.
To be honest, I could use her words of encouragement.
The day before going back to work is always a hard pill to swallow, Sunday. It doesn’t matter how many jobs I’ve encountered over the past six years, I always feel the same: anxious, sad, zoned out, strenuous on my self. Out of those few years, I shared my aspirations, turmoils, and next move with her. Not to say the least, for the past two months, my anxiety has increased with chest pains and sleep apnea.
and IONO LIKE IT!
Here is my take on it,
We must truly be honest with ourselves, intentions, and feelings; how situations can affect how we perceive things. How we carry on these behaviors and adopt them as our character in other areas of our lives.
