It’s that time of year again! Oh, what’s the saying again… New Year, NEW ME! Side-note: I will never say New Year, New Me, EVER lol

Are you jotting down your New Year Resolutions or just enhancing the old New Year Resolutions from 2018?

What type of magazines are you selecting to shred and mount onto your vision board?

Maybe you are simply clicking and scrolling on Indeed for a new job or career change…FAST, Literally!?

Or your spontaneous and adventurous side just kick in over drive to book a on way ticket to New York to watch the ball drop, or maybe sequins midi dress for a New Year’s Party in Time Square

Hopefully, you’re doing a little bit of everything, but if you’re looking for new employment, tis the season for it! I am definitely “here” FOR IT! The questions you should be asking yourself are the following:

What is the main goal, why are you even applying? What type of work and work environment you would like to be in ( small size, fast pace, creative)

Am I able to gain technical and transferrable skills? Is there room for growth and potential promotion in this position? I could go on and on

But one thing is for sure, and two things for certain, you have to be prepare to the meet the company’s needs, objective, speak professionally, resume ready, be attentive, and lastly dress accordingly with confidence!

Cheers to throwing away your mother’s double padding blazers she lend you, and the Nine West loafers you kept for years in your shoe bin as a “just in case”; however, you wanted to discard them along time ago.

Here are a few suggestions on “What to wear for Corporate America Interviews”

  1. Editorial Pants: A good pair of editorial pants are good for the upcoming harsh winters. It’s imperative to have at least three to four pair for different combinations to pair and swap out with new looks. I would suggest black, navy, smokey/light grey, and pattern (stripe/ tiny polka dots) to have in your closet.

  2. Cotton or Satin Blazer: “Tis the season” for a blazer due to majority should be on sale with holiday approaching. The blazer will break the uniform look of an oxford shirt, slacks, and skirt “typical” work day attire. I would suggest the blazer for the in between temperatures in the office. Might I add, a nice cardigan will do as well! For a satin blazer, will just save it for a more festive engagement, so you can show off at your boss Christmas party telling the repetitive and corny jokes they adore or PROMOTION DAY!

  3. 4 to 5 inch Black pointy pump: This item is well- needed! Black pointy pump is so universal, and its on the top list for interview(s) must have. However, be mindful on the height, you definitely do not want to wear club attire heels for your soon to be manager. No chunky heel

  4. A-Line Dress- For the days you are feeling egh about slacks and skirts, throw on an A-Line Dress. Stay away from deep V- neck lines. Black is one of the options but not the only option

  5. Dark Denim Jeans- This is great for casual day at the job not for interview ready. You can pair dark denim jeans with a oxford shirt (tuck or untuck) with or without blazer, ankle boots, strappy heels, loafers, or clogs.

*TIPS: 1.Understanding what is appropriate in the work environment is imperative. Be mindful on what is flattering verses what is form fitting. In this case, know what type fabric clings to your body ( polyester, spandex, and cotton)

2. Skirts should be knee length

3. Be bold but not too loud with colors; settle for colors such as cranberry, dark red, mustard, sunburnt orange.

4.No show and black undergarments for pastel and thin clothing is a must. Be aware on bras that pucker out and show the outline of cups in the blouse.

5. Invest in a strapless black bra.

Where to shop for these apparels? The places to go are the following: New York & Company, Banana Republic, Nordstrom Rack, Express, Macys’, JCPennys, Calvin Klein (outlet), Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, Aldos, DSW, and Ross.
